We all have a tendency to think about things one dimensionally: Jiu Jitsu is intense, Jiu Jitsu is about flow, Jiu Jitsu is about pressure, Jiu Jitsu is about speed and agility, Jiu Jitsu is about control, Jiu Jitsu is about letting go, etc, etc, etc. However, if our perception of grappling is defined by only one aspect, then so will our expression of grappling. Put simply, in Jiu Jitsu, the limit of your openness to what it can be will define the limits of what you can learn, and ultimately what you can do. Open your mind. Explore. Be regimented. Have fun. Be serious. Take it easy. Above all, just train. Don’t get too caught up in what Jits “is” or “isn’t”. You only will only limit yourself.
